Grooming care, as well as proper nutrition, are the factors that most affect the well-being of the baby. This has led parents to always be alert to know and apply tips  that facilitate sometimes demanding tasks such as bathing them safely.

Although the pediatrician usually provides an extensive list with the information related to the baby’s hygiene and the utensils that should be used, at the time of practice it can be a little confused by the fragility that the child has in its first months of life . The fear that they are in the bathtub when they are more agile and restless is also very normal.

That is why we wanted to simplify hygiene tasks a bit by making a list of tools for regular use, safe and easy to apply.

1. The tub or bathtub

It is the most recommended utensil for bathing newborns and up to six or eight months of age. It is placed inside the normal bathtub or on the top platform of the changing table and in it you can put the baby in a comfortable position that allows to clean his body safely without running the risk of ingesting water or suffering blows when sliding.

The most important thing when choosing the one for your baby is that you determine that its structure is stable and is made with hygienic materials such as polypropylene, that they have an anti-slip back and all their edges are curved.

2. The toilet seat

The bath seat is a utensil similar to bathtubs, but it is recommended for babies over eight months. They are also placed inside the bathtub for adults, but having leg holes gives you more freedom than the plastic bathtub, since it is not so fragile with that time.

3. Bath mat

The bath mat is placed in the tub to prevent the child from slipping. It can also be placed under the seat that we mentioned before to reinforce its stability. If you do not have you can replace it with towels.

4. Jugs for rinsing

They are very necessary to ensure the cleanliness of the little one, especially to remove soap or shampoo residues from areas such as their head and face. Choose them with a non-slip handle to avoid accidents when emptying the liquid, and for this same reason, that they are not crystal or glass.

5. Towels to dry the skin

It is essential to use a towel for your exclusive use. This should be made of hypoallergenic fabric and should be washed at least every two uses with special soap for babies.

General recommendations

Remember that among the tips for washing baby’s clothes, the premises are to use detergent for children, avoid fabric softeners and wash all the pieces separately and delicately. In this way it can be guaranteed that they will not suffer any alteration to their skin due to contact with the chemicals of detergents.

The towel is essential in the baby's bath

As we have told you, the hygiene of the little one during his first days should not include soaps. It is recommended to use only water and, in case of including products for cleaning the skin, they should be in a small quantity and gels with pH4.

In addition, it is not recommended to bathe the baby more than twice a week, and it is best to do it for very short periods of time, taking special care with the umbilical cord. Pay close attention also when drying the skin.
