El Barco de Vapor is a collection of children’s and youth literature books published by the SM publishing house forty years ago. This collection is recommended for children between 6 and 12 years old.

As it is the first specific collection of children’s literature that was created in Spain, it began to be used in all schools since its creation. Today it is still used for its variety and for the great titles it contains in an increasingly larger collection.

1. Finis Mundi

Laura Gallego, a consecrated writer of juvenile literature, began to make herself known with Finis Mundi,  a title recommended for young people over 12 years of age because it sometimes contains some complex moments in history.

A story of adventure and intrigue that was awarded the Steamboat Prize in 1998 and which many of us have also read in classrooms.

2. Fray Perico y su borrico , one of the best-known Steamboat classic books

One of the funniest readings used in schools for children from eight years of age due to its ease of reading is the one that features a friar and his donkey.

Juan Muñoz Martín, its author, won the Barco de Vapor Prize in 1979 for this book and the adventures of its protagonist upon arrival at a convent in Salamanca, where he will revolutionize all the friars.

3. The Pampinoplas

One of the classic books of El Barco de Vapor such as El Pampinoplas, has a background behind a funny and humorous story with which the author, Consuelo Armijo, wants to convey the resolution of all conflicts that may arise in a totally peaceful and fostering dialogue.

As a curiosity, this title was the first to get the Steam Boat Award,  which we have talked about in previous books, in 1978.

Recommended for children from seven years old, this story in the form of letters between two friends who have to separate because one of them moves to another city, will show the little ones the importance of friendship and the difficulties that even children can bear with the changes and new adaptations.

Pirate books have always delighted the smallest of the house and, this time, with Garrapata as the protagonist, it will not be less. This book is one of the best sellers in the history of the SM publisher’s collection because of the fun adventures it entails.

6. A striped goblin

Another of the classic books of El Barco de Vapor that hides a background of values ​​is the one that has as its protagonist a goblin with a multitude of colors and stripes.

Throughout the development of this story,  the goblin will learn many aspects of himself that he did not know, in  addition to knowing those of others.

7. By profession, ghost

A fun, mysterious and fast-paced story recommended for children from eight years old with which, throughout its pages, they will be able to accompany John, a boy, like them, on his adventure inside a castle.
